Picture Discussion, Gavin Erh

This picture depicts a scene in a funfair and the people especially children are enjoying themselves. There are quite a number of people riding on the Carousel. The weather on that day looks fine and it is indeed a good time to come out and rejoice. From what I can see, there are many young kids around. So, to what I think, it is probably a day during the weekends.

In the background, I can see a car park. It is probably near the place where the funfair is held. I think it is not a good idea to put the fair to be beside the car park. Recently there are many accidents cases involving children. Although it is more convenient for the car users for example, to pop by and play some games before returning to their homes, but it is very dangerous for kids. They may run and may not even know that they are in the car park. They may be knocked down by reckless drivers very easily as they are tiny when seen from the driver's view.

At the left of the picture, there is a small girl in her pink shirt is riding on one of the Carousel. She look calm and composed. With this kind of look she is giving, I think she should be thinking about something in her mind. The girl on her left seemed to be more frighten over the ride as can be seen from how she holds the hand bar. She is clasping the hand bar close to herself probably fearing that she might fall off the Carousel's back.

In the middle of the picture, there is a girl, one hand holding onto an ice-cream and holding onto the pole on the other hand. I think she is very greedy. She could wait until the trip up there has finished before buying some snacks to eat. I think the parents should not buy that ice-cream. It is distracting her from the ride. When she is up there, and the machine goes spinning round and round, it is dangerous as she might be so engrossed in eating the ice-cream that she loses balance and fall off. In such areas, safety factors are always very important. I am sure no one wants to get hurt when playing. So, safety always comes first.

To the right of the picture, there is a woman in green shirt and white pants. She seemed to be reaching out for something in her bag. She seemed too alone and I can predict that someone is calling her and she is trying to pick up the phone. From her looks I can tell that she is a tourist from the western world. All tourists seemed to always wear dark glasses everywhere they go. From the sunglasses I think the sun that day is very glaring. To what I think, tourists that come to Singapore should feel very warm.

In conclusion, everyone should play and even the most hardworking type of people play as well. Playing is part and parcel of everyone's life. As the saying goes, "All work and no play make Jack a dull boy".
